From 7-11 September 2026, EUSTORY invites you to Hamburg, Germany for a multi-day, interactive youth workshop on constructive journalism at the EUSTORY Past Forward Festival!

Shaping the World with Stories: History, Media & Democracy

How do media and journalism influence the way we understand the past and present of the world we live in? Who decides which stories are told, and how real is our "reality" anyway?

Meet other EUSTORY prize winners and dive into an interactive workshop where you'll explore how media shape narratives and try it out yourself. Guided by two experts from the Constructive Institute in Aarhus, Denmark, you'll step into the role of a journalist: critically questioning narratives, working with sources, and experimenting with new ways of telling historical stories that connect people instead of dividing them.

Over three days, you'll get hands-on experience with the constructive journalism approach. You'll develop your own story idea, explore angles, work with historical material and sources, and finally produce a short video: from concept to recording and editing.

Expect practical skills as well as new perspectives, and the chance to rethink how media can be part of a strong (and democratic) society – and how you can shape the stories of tomorrow.

The workshop will be part of the EUSTORY Past Forward Festival that celebrates EUSTORY's 25th anniversary. Alongside your youth workshop programme on constructive journalism, you will also get to experience an inspiring mix of events and the atmosphere of an international festival with the vibrant EUSTORY community of EUSTORY history competition organisers, experts, activists and young Europeans from more than 20 countries.

Are you ready to join?
