Mogens Lykketoft, the new patron of the Danish History Competition, hosted the Danish award ceremony on 19 June 2014. The topic of this year's Danish History Competition was "The Crucial Moment." Approximately eighty students from twelve different high schools sent in thirty-five entries. These entries were of a very high standard. Many of them were both creative and interactive and took the format of board game, Facebook page or home page. The topics were varied and ranged from the Danish Vikings, Columbus, the French Revolution and the discovery of penicillin to the history of the internet and the role of Edward Snowden in the current U.S. surveillance scandal.

First prize went to Anne-Katrine Schott from Fredericia (pictured above) for her science-fiction novel about oil and energy policy. In it she describes the consequences of oil suddenly running out in the year 2024 with fatal effects on the world including the start of a new ice age.

Second prize went to three students from Rysensteen High School in Copenhagen which also produced the winners of last year's competition. They created an impressive interactive home page dealing with Danish foreign policy since 1945. This home page can be used as a high quality source for teaching purposes.
