Finnish Award Ceremony 2013
On 24 May 2013, the fifth round of the Finnish history competition officially ended with an award ceremony in the Hotel Klaus K in Helsinki. The topic 'Two stories' motivated 425 students to send in a total of 350 competition entries.
In the category of the Upper secondary schools, Inga Vainio from Salo won the first prize for her work ”Stories of Karelian Evacuees From the Karelian Isthmus and Ladogan Karelia. War Through the Eyes of Evacuees”. Noora Isomäki from Siilinjärvi researched the history of her region: "The Century of Change. How Life in Northern Savonia Has Changed During the Last 100 Years” and was awarded second prize. Third prize was given to Alisa Heino from Salo for her work: “Civil War 1918. National Trauma in My Family”
The prize winners from the lower secondary school category were Venla Karppinen from Oulu who wrote about ”Carelian Evacuees”; Henriikka Mälkönen from Espoo, who researched ”The Finn Horse During War and Peace”, and Antti Lehtonen, also from Espoo, whose work was entitled ”Everyday Life at the Home Front 1939-1945. Comparing Countryside and City”.
Finland will be one of the places this year where a EUSTORY Youth Academy will take place and will offer 25 students from various European countries an insight into the conflictive Finnish history.
