On 19 May 2018, the Latvian award ceremony took place in the Grand House of the Riga Latvian Society. As in previous years, the President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis took part in the ceremony to congratulate and award the winners.

The topic of the competition organised by the History Teachers’ Association of Latvia (HTAL) was “Festivals and Celebrations”, which aligned with this year’s 100th anniversary of the State of Latvia. A total of 77 competition entries were submitted by 88 participants from 42 different schools. 52 entries were traditional research works, while 25 were creative works such as videos or games. The age of the participants ranged from 12 to 19.
All competition participants were awarded with books from supporters of the competition. The winners additionally received a set of brain games and an excursion.
