Slovak Award Ceremony 2014
The award ceremony of Slovakia’s EUSTORY competition took place in the Polish Institute in Bratislava on 24 June 2014. The awards were presented to the winners by Dr. h.c. Anton Srholec, the patron of this year’s round. All participants got diplomas and books from the sponsor, the Nation's Memory Institute.
The topic of this year’s round was „The First World War” and a total of fifty-four works were submitted by eighty-five authors. Very interesting works were produced and two of the winning entries were presented during the ceremony. The winning entry in the individual category was: “World War I in Slovak literature and reflection of people's lives in it” by Martina Bátová
In the multiple authors category the first place was shared by two works: “Struggles for power and their effects in lives of common people - the fate of Imrich Kružliak from Detva” by Petra Krnanová, Lucían Gontko and “Traces of First War in Žiar nad Hronom” written by Katarína Michalková, Petra Plankenbuchlerová and Juliana Dobrotková.
After the award winners presented their research to the audience, they were interviewed by two former prize winners and EUSTORY alumnae, Zuzana Jungerová (winner in 2007) and Jasmin Slovacková (winner in 2010). They talked about their motivation to participate and their working process. They also reported about their own experiences in previous EUSTORY activities and presented an animation that was produced during the History Campus Europe 14/14. The animation explains the daily life during World War I in Europe. This work not only impressed the audience, but also the invited representatives from UNESCO who want to use it for educational purposes.
