Award Ceremony in Spain

In its fifth edition (2011-2012) Eustory Spain asked participants to present projects under the title "My Family in History". Managed since 2007 by the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda (RMR), Eustory Spain awarded nine projects in their 2012 award ceremony that took place on the 9th November 2012 in Ronda (Malaga).

"This year we had five times more participants taking part than the year before. The quality of the projects presented has increased tremendously. We have received creative projects in various formats. Participants have taken their work a step further by thinking critically and linking the past to the present," explains Ignacio Herrera, director at the RMR.

This year’s ceremony was chaired by Cesar Antonio Molina, writer, poet, ex-minister of culture and director of the Casa del Lector. The event took place in the Salón de Grados at the RMR in Ronda. The first prize was awarded to Rodrigo Raya Castellano from I.E.S. Generalife in Churriana de la Vega (Granada) for his project Mis bisabuelos Juan y Eduardo. Su tiempo y su historia (1891-1990). This project was about his great-grandfathers, Juan and Eduardo, caught on opposing sides during the Spanish Civil War. In his project he describes them as "victims of the times in which they were born".

The award ceremony served as the ideal launch-pad for the sixth edition of EUSTORY Spain. Participants have been asked to present projects under the same title as the year before: "My Family in History". The deadline for taking part is the 16th August 2013. Winners will be announced in the autumn of 2013. Besides several cash-prizes, winners are given the opportunity to apply to participate in one of several EUSTORY Academies that take place throughout Europe each summer. These history workshops are a fantastic opportunity for young Europeans to debate and investigate different topics alongside winners from other countries.
