About the Organisation
Social development needs dialogue and understanding. Through its operational projects, in its networks, and with cooperations, Körber-Stiftung takes on current social challenges in areas of activities comprising “Knowledge for Tomorrow”, “International Understanding” and “Vibrant Civil Society”, as well as with “Cultural Impulses for Hamburg”.
Inaugurated in 1959 by the entrepreneur Kurt A. Körber, it is now actively involved in their own national and international projects and events. As an operational foundation, it addresses the societal challenges of our time through projects, networks and strong cooperative partnerships. It aims are to initiate debate, try out solutions and motivate people to get involved – entirely in keeping with the spirit of its founder.
About the Competition
In 1973, German President Heinemann and Kurt A. Körber announced the first history competition. Since then the “Geschichtswettbewerb des Bundespräsidenten” has become Germany’s largest organised amateur research movement. Every two years the German President opens a new round of the competition. The competitions basic principle is Explorative Learning. Submissions must have a regional or biographical approach to the chosen topic and participants have to work with original sources, be it interviews with contemporary witnesses or public archive investigations.
