About the Organisation

Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura della Compagnia di San Paolo is an operating foundation, which, as an instrumental entity, is part of the Compagnia di San Paolo non-profit group, based in Turin. Its primary responsibilities include conserving and promoting the Historical Archive of the Compagnia di San Paolo, which preserves the documentary heritage from the 16th to the 20th century and attests to the institution’s centuries-old history. It is active in the field of digital humanities and the digital transformation used to increase the accessibility, research, and communication of archival heritage.

The management and enhancement of the Historical Archive of the Compagnia di San Paolo reflect a clear cultural and civic commitment: to make a centuries-old documentary heritage accessible to scholars and the wider public.

About the Competition

From 2004 to 2024, the History Competition was coordinated by the Fondazione per la Scuola, another instrumental body of the Compagnia di San Paolo.
Starting in 2025, the organisation of the competition will be overseen by Fondazione 1563, which is developing a new format based on its experience with archival-based educational activities.

The proposal that the Foundation is developing in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliografica del Piemonte e della Valle d’Aosta, includes an initial training phase for teachers, followed by the launch of a school contest during the 2026–2027 academic year.

The aim is to provide tools and resources for a broad audience of educators across various school levels, in order to support and facilitate research and the use of archival sources.
