Europe 14/14 - HistoryCampus in Berlin

Commemorating the First World War
Commemorating the First World War

The First World War - What has it got to do with my identity, my nation, and with today's Europe? This year marks the Centenary of the First World War. To commemorate the Centenary, a history festival Europe 14/14 will be organised in Berlin in the spring of 2014. Europe 14|14 is a joint project of the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) in cooperation with two German foundations, the Koerber-Foundation and the Robert Bosch Foundation, and numerous other sponsors and partners.

The focal point of the Europe 14|14 festival is formed by the HistoryCampus Berlin from 7-11 May 2014. Up to 500 young people from all over Europe, including EUSTORY alumni, will meet at the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin to investigate the personal significance of the First World War for themselves, for their national identity and for modern day Europe as a joint peace project. The main focus lies on creative approaches and transnational exchanges. Together with partners from arts and culture, science, politics, education and theatre, 22 different workshops were developed that will take place concurrently during that week in May 2014.

The HistoryCampus is embedded in an extensive public programme. The Open Campus is the premium cultural programme curated by the Maxim Gorki Theatre. In cooperation with well-known international artists, a remarkable set of cultural projects will be developed that approach the subject First World War from an experimental and artistic angle.

supporting programme includes a range of other individual events such as readings, movie screenings and discussions with prominent representatives from the fields of politics and social science. It will take place within four weeks surrounding the HistoryCampus in cooperation with institutions and partners in Berlin.
