EUSTORY Turns 20!
„Seven years after the presentation of my research, we still talk about all of it.” For two decades, EUSTORY has been motivating young Europeans like Ruth from Spain to ask their own questions about history and to find answers to those questions that often cannot be found in history textbooks. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary this September, EUSTORY presents a wide range of insights into its work.
Since EUSTORY was founded on 1 September 2001, approximately 230,000 young people from Europe and its neighbouring countries have submitted over 95,000 entries to the network's national history competitions. For a total of 1,900 award winners, EUSTORY has organised 67 international youth programmes in 19 different countries over the last 20 years. Getting involved in EUSTORY Activities can have many different effects on these young people’s lives such as: Learning how to come to terms with disturbing family histories, getting a chance to actively shape the culture of remembrance, unexpectedly discovering exceptional people from the past who become their role models, or making friends for life.
On the occasion of EUSTORY's 20th anniversary, we are publishing personal stories of people who talk about their experiences with EUSTORY. These stories – told in pictures, videos and short texts - demonstrate that history not only affects everyone on an individual level, but it also shows what dedication can achieve and how small steps can lead to big things.
