Ready for Kick-Off: Online History Camp Starts on 21 October
The Online History Camp “Don’t Look Back in Anger! Coping with Painful Pasts” brings history competition prize winners of four countries together. Young people from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine will meet for six intensive weeks in online sessions to investigate and discuss matters of family and local history and their impact on the present.
The participants are looking forward to their cross-border exchange in turbulent times. The current political situation in Belarus has reinforced the awareness that the present will be future history. This has increased the desire to share and reflect how people from different countries have experienced and overcome difficult situation in their pasts.
The participants will explore the fabric of painful past through the optics of family memory. Equipped with theoretical expertise, artistic approach and digital storytelling tools they will learn about multifaceted family memory that sometimes concurs and sometimes questions given narratives. By conducting interviews, creating audio recordings and collecting old photographs of family members and special items the participants will follow the traces of their own past to understand more about the present.
Their creative outcomes will be presented during and after the closing session on 28 November 2020.
Not to look back in anger but in joy after six adventurous and enriching weeks of international exchange and dialogue – that’s the goal set for this year’s Online History Camp which will be a new experience for everyone involved.
The Online History Camp 2020 is organised by Körber-Stiftung. It forms an integral part of the project “History Competitions in Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine”.
