Public voting has now ended, and the six winners of the Roots & Reels contest have been announced. The submissions showed how creative and courageous young people can be when they engage with history.

Second Prize: They Are Not Forgotten Here by Matej, Filip, Roko and Fran
“They Are Not Forgotten Here explores the ways communities preserve the memory of those who came before them. Through visits to places of remembrance, personal reflections and historical research, the film examines how memory continues to shape identity across generations.
By highlighting stories that remain present in local history and collective consciousness, the documentary reminds us that remembrance is not only about the past, but also about the values and lessons carried into the future.”
Third Prize: Renaming Streets by Olha
Street names are more than signs on a wall — they reflect memory, identity, and the stories a society chooses to remember.
This reel explores how changing street names can reshape the way communities connect with their past and understand their present.
