"An Unfinished Story" (2023)

The competition entry deals with the fate of Koço Josif Plaku, a geological engineer well-known for his successful exploration of oil-reserves in Albania in the mid-20 th century. Even though he was renowned for his work and dedicated his life to his country, he was – in accordance with article 64 of the Criminal Code of the Hoxha Regime – imprisoned and finally sentenced to death by shooting. The competition entry is partly based on an interview with Plaku’s wife who, along with their son, waited in vain for him to be released.

The research results are documented in the visual work called “An Unfinished Story”, combining visual arts and digital storytelling.

Iris Boshnjaku's entry won the first prize of the Albanian History Competition 2023.
