"The Morgan Family and Howell’s School, Llandaff" (2010)

This history project is a very local one, revolving around the overlaps between the Howell’s School Llandaff, the oldest girls’ school in Wales (since 1860), and an important family in Cardiff, that of David Morgan, the founder of the first retail store in the centre of Cardiff (in 1893) as well as Governor of Howell’s School, between 1898 and 1915. Over the years quite a few members of the Morgan family came here either as students of the school, like May, David’s niece or Mary, the wife of his grandson, Bernard, or as members of its staff, like David Morgan himself and Miss Llewellyn Lewis who were its headmasters. Last but not least, Bryant House, the home of the Morgans served as a boarding house for the school from 1953 till 1994.

“The Morgan Family and Howell’s School, Llandaff” won the first prize in the Welsh National Heritage Competition of 2010.
