“Hopefully I’m speaking here in front of many future history teachers,” Latvian President Andris Bērziņš concluded his speech during the award ceremony of the Latvian EUSTORY Competition in Riga on May, 24th. It was the second opportunity that President Bērziņš used to underline the importance of history and a European perspective on the past for his home country after his speech in connection with the reception for the EUSTORY Network during the Annual Network Meeting in Riga in 2013.
The award ceremony of the Latvian history competition took place in Riga, in The House of Blackheads, the President's residence, on 25 May, 2013. There were 135 research works this year, submitted by 165 students of all districts of Latvia. It was the 12th round of the national history competition and the topic of this round was “The history of education in Latvia”.
Latvian President Andris Bērziņš awarded the winners of this year's Latvian History Competition in the White Hall of the Riga Latvian Society.This year's competition topic was "Latvians abroad".
