During this year’s EUSTORY Annual Network Meeting, representatives from 19 national EUSTORY competitions discussed experiences from and strategies for political-historical education in the light of current Europe-wide trends of renationalisation and digitalisation. Their aim is to ensure a stable perspective for historical research competitions through steady participation of students and teachers. Best-practise for didactical and methodological support, effective jury work and the integration of new media formats were presented and exchanged during the workshop sessions.
Representatives from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine gathered in Hamburg for a workshop to discuss the initiation and strengthening of history competitions in their respective countries. Between May 2017 and December 2018 they want to organise and host competition rounds for school and university students.
For her special merits for the international cultural exchange, the German Goethe-Institut awards Irina Sherbakova with this year’s Goethe Medal. As a long-standing partner of the EUSTORY Network, she has been running the Russian history competition for many years.

EUSTORY is expanding its offers for young Europeans in the field of international understanding. The new format, the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit, is aimed at award winners and alumni from more than 20 national history competitions of the EUSTORY Network and its partners. The application platform opened on 1 June.
On the Annual Network Meeting in Lisbon in May 2017, EUSTORY competition organisers elected a new Steering Committee. For the next year, representatives from Portugal, Norway and Israel will set the strategic agenda for EUSTORY, be involved in decisions about membership, as well as in overseeing the general activities of the Network.
During the Annual Network Meeting in Lisbon, representatives from the EUSTORY member competitions accepted the Irish application for membership of the Network. Dr Paul Flynn, researcher at the National University of Ireland Galway and organiser of the Irish competition »Breaking the S.E.A.L.«, presented their initiative at the meeting in Portugal.

The award ceremony of the Swiss History Competition 2015-2017 took place on 20 May 2017 in the National Museum Zurich. The topic of the competition was "Being different". About ninety people attended the ceremony which was enriched by two young musicians who played the violin and the cello.
