On 24 May 2013, the fifth round of the Finnish history competition officially ended with an award ceremony in the Hotel Klaus K in Helsinki. The topic 'Two stories' motivated 425 students to send in a total of 350 competition entries. Finland will be one of the places this year where a EUSTORY Youth Academy will take place.

The Italian event in March kicked off this year's series of award ceremonies. On 30 April, the non-governmental organisation MEMORIAL will honour the winners of the Russian history competition in Moscow. The Estonian ceremony follows on 18 May, Finland and Sweden will hold their ceremonies on 24 May, followed by the Swiss and Latvian ceremonies one day later.

From late January to early February, the EUSTORY alumni workshop "The Desire for Freedom - European values in times of crisis" took place in Berlin. The Körber Foundation and the German Historical Museum invited 15 young Europeans to discuss various aspects of the term "freedom"and its meaning for today's democracies.
